[jade-develop] Examples for off-the-shelf software developed using JADE

Hi,

As a research student working in the field of Smart Grid technologies, I
observed a trend of using JADE to implement/ encapsulate distributed
control mechanisms. May anyone suggest me some other fields that favor the
use of JADE, or any well-known software developed using JADE, such that I
can assess the popularity of JADE, and the agent-based software paradigm in
general.

Hi,

Personally I consider network management as a field where a platform like JADE provides an important value added.
In Telecom Italia we already have 3 mission critical large-scale applications based on JADE (more in details on WADE, the extension of JADE that, among others, provide support for defining agent tasks as workflows – http://jade.tilab.com/wade).
1) WANTS-Delivery: The system that manages all XDSL activations (about 8.000.000 customers) in Telecom Italia (WANTS stands for Workflows and AgeNTS)
2) WANTS Assurance: The system that monitors the status and quality of all XDSL lines
3) WIZARD: a system guiding Telecom Italia technicians performing maintenance activities in the field

Furthermore we are about to deploy a Service Management JADE-based environment called ServiceGuard that aims at providing monitoring and control features according to the As-a-Service approach

Another interesting field is in my opinion multi-player games. Recently within the JADE Community we started the AMUSE project that aims at creating an open source platform to create distributed multi-player online games. Currently a preliminary experimental version is available (http://jade.tilab.com/amuse), but in a few weeks the first official version will be released.
